The genome is your complete set of DNA, including all of your genes. A genome is similar to the blueprint of a house that is yet to be built. lf the builder follows the architect’s exact guideline, the house will match the blueprint perfectly. However, alterations will most likely be made throughout the construction process. These variations from the plan may be due to factors such as weather & available resources.

Gene expression is the process by which the instructions in our DNA are converted into an end product such as a protein. Such as in building a house, gene expression can be altered by a variety of factors, including environmental changes, nutritional status, medication exposure or overall stress.

Nutrigenomics is where nutritional health meets your genome; assessment provides data on how nutrients, herbs, and other factors may influence genetic expression – both positively and negatively.

It’s All About the SNPs

SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms – pronounced “snips”) are the most common type of genetic variation among people. SNPs generate biological variation by causing differences in the recipes for proteins that are written in each gene.

Those differences can in turn influence a variety of traits such as appearance, disease susceptibility or response to particular drugs. Very few SNPs result in a direct health consequence; rather they reflect your chances of developing a particular health condition.

A nutrigenomic evaluation can be helpful in pinpointing key SNPs and provides a foundation for which evidence based nutritional recommendations can be made to improve overall health outcomes.

Nutrigenomnic consults may be considered for many health conditions:

  • MTHFR Variation
  • Anxiety/Depression
  • Hormone Imbalance
  • Autoimmune Conditions
  • Fibromyalgia/Pain Disorders
