FAQs

Group class support for you in your weight loss goal with medical assistance with once weekly semaglutide injections and nutritional support.

Semaglutide is a peptide (small protein) that activates metabolic pathways in your body. Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications called glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) agonists. GLP-1 agonists mimic GLP-1 in your body to lower blood sugar, regulate appetite, and slow down the gastrointestinal tract to make you feel fuller. Semaglutide is FDA approved for treating Type 2 Diabetes and for weight management.

Yes and no. There are FDA indications for diabetes and obesity, however coverage is very limited. The monthly cost is typically around $1200 monthly. We do not prescribe under the brand names, but start our patients at a lower compounded dosage, which will not be processed through insurance. If you would like to obtain an insurance prescription you may do so from your primary care provider and partake in this program for the nutrition/support.

After the introduction class, we will order your prescription through a compounding pharmacy. The medication and injection supplies will be mailed to your home.

The answer is different for everyone! We will start on a low dosage and slowly increase your dosage. In clinical trials, most participants lost weight as their dosages were increased. We will support your weight loss with lifestyle changes.

In the 68-week studies: 83% of adults taking Wegovy (brand name Semaglutide) lost 5% or more of their weight compared to 31% of people taking a placebo; 66% of adults lost 10% or more of their weight compared to 12% of people taking a placebo 48% of adults lost 15% or more of their weight compared to 5% of people taking a placebo. These studies were done without any lifestyle interventions.

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, dyspepsia, dizziness, abdominal distension, eructation, hypoglycemia in patients with type 2 diabetes, flatulence, gastroenteritis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. We will work with you to limit and treat these side effects.

Semaglutide caused thyroid C-cell tumors occurring in rodents (with unknown risks in humans). Semaglutide should not be used in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2. It should not be used in people with type-1 diabetes, a history of pancreatitis, or pregnancy.

Yes. We will ask that you have had a kidney function test, hemoglobin a1c or fasting glucose, and TSH within 6 months prior to starting. Comprehensive metabolic panel (to assess kidney and liver function) and  lipid panel (cholesterol levels) are optional. We may order labs periodically while in this program.

Though we want to support you in your health goals, semaglutide is not recommended during pregnancy. It is recommended to stop semaglutide at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.

No there are not. Semaglutide does delay gastric emptying. For this reason, backup contraception should be used. If combined with certain diabetic medications, there is increased risks for hypoglycemia.

We ask that you message Dr. Vitali or Dr. Young with your questions. We may be able to answer you in the portal or may ask to schedule you for a prompt in office or telehealth appointment.

You can self-administer into your thigh, abdomen, or upper arms once weekly. We will teach you how to inject at our first class.
