What is it?
PRP is platelet rich plasma. The PRP acts as a serum created by your own blood, which contains growth factors. When injected into the scalp, it can trigger follicles to start growing hair again, essentially “waking them up” again. It can also produce thicker hair.
What is it used for?
This is used for hair loss or thinning hair. It only works on areas where the follicles have not been damaged by scar tissue.
What can I expect during the treatment?
Your blood is drawn and then spun down to separate out the platelet rich plasma. It is then injected back into the scalp with a tiny needle in the areas that have hair loss. You may experience some pinching, pressure, and minor pain during the procedure. Some topical numbing creams can be used along the hairline. Distraction techniques are used while the injections are administered to reduce your discomfort.
What can I expect post treatment?
Your scalp may feel sore for 2-4 days after the procedure. You can wash your hair as soon as that evening if you would like. You need to avoid any scalp treatments or harsh products for 2-4 days post procedure.
How often should I repeat the procedure?
Treatment results vary from person to person. It is recommended to complete a series of 3 sessions spaced out 4-6 weeks and then possibly repeat the procedure every 3-6 months thereafter. Hair regrowth can be seen in as little as 3 months or take as long as 12 months.
